We made it!

We are in Alaska!! After 4 long nights travelling the Alcan highway we crossed the border at about 2:30pm (Alaska time). The scene was just like the Simpsons movie, also like a post card. Animals we saw along the way: caribou, moose, dall sheep, 2 black bears, porcupine, and bison. We have some good pics, so I'll let them speak for themselves. I am trying to get the videos up but they might not work for a while. Hopefully, soon though. We miss and love everyone reading this!!! Also, there are no sunset pictures because we have yet to see it set!

On the Road Still

We finally got internet connection!! Right now, we are in a hotel in St. Albert, Canada. We are right outside of Edmonton, and decided that a hotel was the best option for tonight. Tomorrow, we will begin our route down the Alaska Highway. Since Madison, things have been great. Our first stop was Minneapolis where we also stayed in a hotel, but it actually had a decent view of one of the 10,000 lakes, which I am convinced there are that many. In Minneapolis, we made our way to the Mall of America, which was basically like a day of torture for me seeing as I had no extra money, not even for one small splurge at Nordstrom (ugh!). Not to mention the 500 other stores they have there. Yes...I can still remember it was painful leaving there empty handed. But worth the trip, I had never seen anything quite like it. I can only imagine how miserable that place could be during the peak season. Making our way across Minnesota, the weather was nice, we caught some traffic, but made it to North Dakota in good time. North Dakota was flat and pretty boring, until we arrived at our destination, Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The park was closing and had already cashed out for the day, so we got lucky and they waived our park entrance fee. Headed up to the campsite, we saw lots of prairie dogs, which are much cuter than you would think. We also ran into the Bison, big and burly. It's hard for me to think that any of them are actually girls. We walked around the area for a while and upon returning to our tent discovered a LARGE bison strolling about 10 ft. from our tent!! I couldn't believe it. We were both paranoid for the rest of the night, constantly looking over our shoulders. The next night we found ourselves setting up tent in Havre, Montana. A small town off highway 2. We camped at Evergreen Campground, which was basically someones backyard with numbered picnic tables. It was a relaxing night, and a good stop before our next one. Which was.... Glacier National Park was our next arrival. See the pics for this one. But, please note that they do not do it justice. Ok, enough talking. Be sure to watch the videos. First Stop- Madison, WI

We made it to our first stop in under 8 hours. Our drive can be summed up in numbers: 446 miles, 8 hours, 18 roadkill (mostly in IN), 16 different license plates, and 2 tanks of gas. We spent the evening walking around downtown Madison, mostly through the campus. The weather turned nice just in time. Just wanted to share some pictures. Tomorrow we are heading to Minneapolis...
